Plastics separation with electrostatic separators

Dry and effective separation of plastic mixtures

Many plastic mixtures cannot be separated with common separation methods - such as density separation or optical sorting - or can only be separated to a limited extent or in an ecologically and economically inefficient manner. This is due to the fact that the mixtures often consist of materials with similar specific weight, same colorful color and same mechanical behavior.

An alternative are hamos EKS electrostatic plastic separators. These systems separate plastic mixtures into single-variety fractions and operate dry and independent of specific gravity and color.

Application examples for electrostatic plastic separators

A typical application for the hamos EKS is the recycling of PVC windows. To ensure that the PVC from window profiles, profile sections or old windows can be reused, it is essential that all non-PVC materials are completely separated before processing. The rubber and soft PVC sealing lips inserted or extruded into the profile, which seal the sash and frame as well as the glass pane, cause particular problems during reuse. The electrostatic separator removes the plastic impurities from the PVC window regrind fully automatically.

In this process, not only production waste and profile sections resulting from the production of windows, but also old windows, old doors, shutter curtains and similar materials can be processed and separated. The PVC produced is characterized by very high purities and easily meets the high quality standards of materials for new PVC plastic windows.

So far, hamos EKS electrostatic separators have been used to separate more than 50 different mixtures such as ABS/PS (electronic scrap), PET/PVC (beverage bottles), PP/PE (packaging) or ABS/PMMA (automotive tail lights) into unmixed fractions.

In industrial use, the plastic separator combines low separation costs with high separation performance. Due to the high value added by recovering valuable materials from mixtures that have not been separable since and, above all, due to the better prices obtained for clean products, electrostatic separation systems pay for themselves in a very short time.
